LIFELOOP - Return to

Three
or four radio receivers and four mini-FM transmitters, each transmitting
on a different frequency what it is being fed or what it picks
up from the near field chaos surrounding it. The transmission
between the devices is affected by what frequency the receivers
are tuned to, the immediate electro-magnetic field, human presence
and furniture. The signal is not a sound loop travelling in the
area of intervention, but a spontaneous event, resulting from
collective action in perpetual movement. Séamus O´Donnell
(aka lifeloop) is an Irish sound artist, based in Berlin, who
is working on different projects focused on audio or sonic art,
its production and the possible media outlets available.

Film,
4 min, 2009.
Yoni and phallic symbols are merging together in this piece of
work to destruct and give birth all in one. Trains move through
land and time carrying generations of people to places of life
and death. This is a collage of film, voice, text and body of
one family (3 generations).

I
started more or less 3 years ago. At the time,I was hanging around
in a scrapyard.. and had many old or new or brocken car pieces
around me... Many of them were beautiful and full of details:
Too nice for the garbage. Why not start something creative out
of it. Being influenced about all these dead cars and scrap...
I felt to give them a new life again and create something between
life and death. In my works, I like to represent animals, robots,
but also some other fantasies, full structures. For me,it is important
to keep the original colors or forms from the single piece. L.E.D.
Light are fitting well with my works and my next target is to
create some moving robots/animals.

Loop Surveillance
Two
tape loops run on four old reel to reel tape machines. While two
of the machines are constantly recording the sound in the space,
the other two devices simultaneously play back that recording,
echoed, which is then also recorded, and so on. This work is a
play on the hypothesis that the apparently empty tape recordings
may sometimes contain messages from the beyond. This is known
as "Electronic Voice Phenomenon" or "Tonbandstimmen".
It is a test to discover if there are any ghosts still lingering
in the friedrichstadtZentral.

travails tetchy themes through a think tank thought bank and hopefully
will feel less lost after the process concludes. Paul Prendergast
is a filmmaker with a particular interest in experimental and
conceptually challenging media productions. Though he dislikes
categorisation, alot of his prior work might fall under the poetic
documentary form model. He is also an organiser of sound, workshops
and film nights.

Mantelli dismantles the alghoritmic pattern which makes the software
work by opening breaches of infidelity in programming and letting
out hypnotic automatisms on the oneiric side of the machine, symptoms
of desire for the “dream inducing machine” of the computer:
unproductive drives held inside their own silicium reverie. We
are embarking in a journey from the ludic desire of a rebellious
computer to the automatic luddism of a machine-like aesthetics
with a tendency towards disobedience and oriented to the electric
filter of an aesthetics frozen in the creation act of an anarchic
beauty of malfunction.
